Ping Pong Diplomacy
UVA Van Lung Scholar
Got selected to represent UVA and the United States for a 12 day, fully funded J-term to Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Ping Pong Diplomacy. Ping Pong Diplomacy is the most documented event in regards to U.S.-China relation in history.

Invited to the Embassy of China in Washington D.C. twice. Met world champions and even played with two of them!

Hailing from a public high school with little resources about studying abroad, particularly in underrepresented Southeast Asia, I struggled heavily during the application to U.S. colleges. I am working to democratize knowledge and mentorship for the U.S. college application process and create an alumni network for those based in the U.S.

Raised in a three-generation household, I often found it puzzling when friends shared that they weren't close to their grandparents. I then realized that the systemic problem of a widening intergenerational gap in Singapore, exacerbated by the pandemic.
Wanted to bridge the gap through a fun and culturally-rich medium - Mahjong! A traditional tile-based game that is a cherished pastime that fosters meaningful conversations.
